You Are What You Eat
Doctors recommend that we should eat a minimum amount of 5 to 7 servings fruit and vegetables DAILY.
We are creatures of habit. We are a society of convenience. We have grown up driving through, and eating on the run. We have never been taught about proper nutrition. And we are not proactive about anything we do in our lives. Especially our health. We do not believe that it will and can happen to us until its too late.
Why do we walk around thinking that it won’t happen to us? Or when we finally do get sick and go to the doctor, we take the prescription and think that those pills will do the trick? Why do we gamble with our health, the most valuable thing we possess?
You know you need to eat properly but now what? Are you going to change your habits just because you now know what you’ve just read?
The reason that our bodies need 5 to 7 servings of fruit and vegetables daily is to give us the proper amount of ANTIOXIDANTS to counteract the harmful effects of the FREE RADICALS that are caused by poor and improper nutrition, lack of exercise, pollution, smoking, pesticides, poor sleeping habits and stress, as well as the simple act of aging.
Antioxidants & Free Radicals
Free radicals are atoms with at least one unpaired electron. In excess, free radicals produce harmful oxidation that can damage our cell membranes. Free radicals are like cattle let loose on a field to graze. Uncontrolled, the cattle would destroy the crops. Ranch hands are hired to make sure the cattle stay in one area and graze, and then moved to a different area the next day. Antioxidants act much the same way. As the ranch hands for our bodies, antioxidants prevent free radicals from potentially damaging millions of healthy, functioning cells. The damage that free radicals do to our cells is called OXIDATIVE STRESS.
Oxidative stress is believed to cause: Arthritis, diabetes, strokes, premature aging, edema & leg swelling; artery hardening; cancer susceptibility; inflammation, chronic heart disease; Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, liver disease and other degenerative diseases and Illnesses.
